Leipzig is a city that flourished from the 16th century onwards thanks to the wealth it created from the rich nearby silver mines. Leipzig enjoys a reputation for outstanding excellence in music, with the likes of Bach, Wagner, Mendelssohn, and Schumann all having lived here, and literary work with Germany’s greatest poet, Goethe, setting a fundamental scene of Faust in the Auerbachs Keller.
Day 3 Leipzig
St. Thomas Church visit
It was built in 1212 and originally established as a place of worship for Augustinian Canons. Highlights of the church are the Baroque-style turret and the magnificent main entrance. It is also the final resting place of Johann Sebastian Bach, who was organist and cantor here for 27 years.Bach Museum visit

Haus der Musik visit
Visit the Haus der Musik (House of Music), an interactive discovery museum where visitors can conduct the Vienna Philharmonic from a virtual conductor's podium. The musicians will even rate you! Journey back in time to see the great classical composers. Explore Stadt Park, a lovely park that lies on the slope where the Danube used to overflow into the inner city before the construction of the Danube Canal. Many memorial statues of the the great composers of the past stand in the park; the best known depicts Johann Strauss Jr., who composed Die Fledermaus and "The Beautiful Blue Danube."

Melk Monastery guided visit
Visit Melk Abbey, a fine example of baroque architecture. Our tour of the Abbey will include the Marble Hall with its pilasters coated in red marble and an allegorical painting on the ceiling, the Library with over 80,000 original volumes, and the Kaisergang (Emperor's Gallery) decorated with portraits of Austrian rulers.
